Methods and Precautions for Use

Z004 CE-marked ball valves meet the requirements of PED Directive 2014/68/EU and/or ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

1) All standard Z004 valves can be used in a temperature range of -10°C to +150°C. For different temperatures, the valve must be equipped with seals made of material suitable for the required operating temperature.

2) All standard Z004 valves are not equipped with devices against internal overpressure, such devices as balance hole or etched seat are available upon specific request from the end user.

3) All standard Z004 valves in general, do not accept the presence of ice and fluids subject to instability inside the valve, as they would block the OPEN or CLOSE maneuvers, also the increase in fluid volume can damage the valve components making it no longer usable.

4) Standard Z004 valves can be used at low temperatures (from -29°C and down to -196°C for cryogenic service) or at high temperatures (up to +250°C). Any requests should be agreed upon by the customer with the sales department at the time of order/offer.

5) Z004 valves can be used for "industrial" oxygen use only if thoroughly degreased and packed in special bags. Any medical use should be specified at the time of order/offer.

Commissioning

Before installation, check the suitability of the valve for the intended use.

In case the valve is used in a potentially explosive atmosphere, it is necessary to assess its suitability according to the hazard zone in which it is installed (see ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU).

Check before installation that the piping is properly cleaned and free of dirt or welding residue. In the case of valves with weld ends, it is the installer's responsibility to ensure that the work is done properly.

The commissioning of a valve should always be done by trained personnel is authorized. Take care to properly align piping with the valve to avoid pulling effect.

Maintenance

Depending on the operating conditions, operating period of the valve and the number of operations, the valve may experience leakage problems due to settling and wear of the seals or slight leakage of the stuffing box.

Zema recommends replacing the various seals every 2 years of operation. In addition, it should be remembered that whenever the valve is disassembled, the seals between the body/ring/side body should be replaced.

All maintenance work must be performed by qualified personnel.

In the case of disassembly of valves through which fluids, hazardous or harmful gases pass, additional precautions should be taken (see system action specifications).

Problem

External fluid leakage
The operating conditions of the valve, warranted by the manufacturer, have not been met.
The valve has suffered corrosion due to chemical incompatibility between the valve materials and the fluid. Wear of the packing gaskets due to failure to perform periodic maintenance.
Loosening or stretching of the valve body joining screws has occurred.

Internal fluid leakage
Damage to seals or ball surface due to the passage of foreign matter.
Internal seals are worn: valve maintenance should be performed.

The valve has too high an operating torque, or the valve is stuck
Any change in the state of the product used inside the valve (Ex. from water to ice).
Any deposit of particles on the outer surface of the ball.
